Deeper skin, coarse hair and razor bumps

Castleridge is small, about 6,100 people in 2021, but very diverse: about seven in ten residents belong to a visible minority, including large South Asian, Black and Filipino communities. That mix of skin types is exactly what a dual-wavelength laser is for.

For Black women and anyone with very deep skin, the priority is the 1064 nm Nd:YAG. It is the long wavelength that bypasses most surface melanin, and it is the setting we use on the GentleMax Pro for Fitzpatrick types V and VI. Tightly curled, coarse hair is prone to ingrown hairs and razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis) on the bikini line, underarms and chin. Many clients find those bumps settle as the hair thins over a laser series.

A sensible first step from Castleridge is the $10 consultation. It includes a patch test on the area you care about, and the fee comes off your first treatment. Bikini line laser is $85 a session and underarms are $85.

The studio is women-only, open every day, and a straightforward drive up Falconridge Boulevard.

What's the drive from Castleridge to Lavish Beauty?

+

About 7.8 km, roughly 13 minutes in light traffic (approx.): 64 Avenue NE to Falconridge Boulevard NE, north through Saddletowne, then 60 Street NE and Cornerstone Drive NE.

Is laser safe for Black skin?

+

With the right wavelength and a careful technician, yes. We use the GentleMax Pro's 1064 nm Nd:YAG for deep skin tones, start with a patch test and increase settings gradually.

Can laser help with ingrown hairs and razor bumps?

+

Often it can. Fewer, finer hairs mean fewer hairs curling back into the skin, so bumps on the bikini line, underarms and chin usually calm down over a series.

What should I avoid before my session?

+

Skip waxing, threading and tweezing for about four weeks and avoid tanning. Shave 12 to 24 hours before, and come without lotion or deodorant on the area.
