A bikini line treatment removes the hair that shows outside a regular swimsuit or underwear line: the sides, the top edge, and the crease where your leg meets your body. It's the “tidy edges” option. Everything inside the line is left as it is.

If you want the whole area treated, front to back, that's a Brazilian laser treatment ($150 per session). Plenty of clients start with the bikini line and upgrade later. Your technician will confirm the exact boundary with you before the first pulse, so there are no surprises.

Bikini line laser is a good fit if you:

• shave or wax your bikini line every week or two and are tired of the cycle;
• get razor bumps, ingrown hairs or irritation along the line;
• want a smaller, lower-cost first step before committing to a Brazilian;
• have dark hair, on any skin tone from very fair to very deep.

It is not a good fit for white, grey, light blonde or red hair (the laser needs pigment in the hair), during pregnancy, or on skin that is sunburned or recently tanned. We'll check all of this at your consultation.

Laser works on hair that is actively growing, and only part of your hair is in that phase at any one time. That's why it takes a series. A typical path looks like this:

• 1–3 weeks after session 1: treated hairs loosen and shed.
• Sessions 2–3: regrowth is patchier and slower; shaving drops off.
• Sessions 4–6: most clients shave only occasionally, if at all.
• After the series: long-term hair reduction, with any regrowth finer and lighter.

Laser gives permanent hair reduction, not guaranteed permanent removal. Hormonal shifts (pregnancy, PCOS, menopause) can wake up dormant follicles, so an occasional maintenance visit is normal. Results vary from person to person.

Plan for 6 to 8 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, so a full series takes roughly 6 to 10 months. Coarse bikini hair tends to respond faster than fine hair on the arms or face. Clients with hormonal hair growth may need a couple of extra sessions. Keep to your spacing: coming back too early doesn't speed things up, and long gaps let the next growth cycle get ahead.

Before:

• Shave the bikini line 12–24 hours before. Don't wax, pluck, thread or epilate for 4 weeks.
• Avoid tanning and self-tanner on the area for 2 weeks.
• Arrive with clean skin: no lotion, oil or deodorant on the area.
• Tell us about new medications, especially antibiotics or acne medication.

After:

• Mild redness or small bumps around follicles are normal and usually settle within a few hours.
• Skip hot baths, saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools and hard workouts for 24–48 hours.
• Wear loose, breathable cotton underwear the first day. A cool compress or aloe helps.
• Shaving between sessions is fine. Waxing and plucking are not.

The bikini line is one of the more sensitive areas, so we won't pretend it's painless. Most clients describe a quick snap followed by warmth, and say it's easier than waxing. It usually gets easier as the series goes on, because there's less hair to absorb the energy. You can ask for a pause at any point.

The bikini area often has more natural pigment than the rest of the body, and years of shaving or waxing can darken it further. That makes wavelength choice important. The Candela GentleMax Pro has two:

• 755nm Alexandrite for lighter skin (roughly Fitzpatrick I–III).
• 1064nm Nd:YAG for deeper skin (Fitzpatrick IV–VI). It reaches deeper and is absorbed far less by the pigment in the skin, which lowers the risk of burns and dark marks.
